AAt present, Tokyo is undergoing urban redevelopment in numerous areas. Many zones surrounding railway stations have been reorganized, and cityscapes dominated by shopping malls and office towers continue to expand. At the same time, as the city comes increasingly under the control of developers and large commercial complexes, opportunities for newcomers to join the community have diminished, and the city is gradually losing its breathing room and latent potential.
What, then, is Tokyo aiming to become?
This work employs live-action VR footage to reflect on Tokyo’s future, drawing on several markets that have developed under incomplete systems of management.
